The Stables Shopping Centre is open.
In 2012 Annenberg Property Group identified the need for a formal shopping centre to service the requirements of the approximately 80,000 residents of the Du Noon informal settlement in Killarney Gardens. The obvious fit for the development was Shoprite. We concluded a lease agreement for a 2500m² supermarket on a site that allowed a maximum bulk of just under 5,500m². Other major tenants included Shoprite Liquors, Gold Circle, Frydays, New Look Cosmetics. The balance of the centre was let to smaller retailers who catered for the specific needs of the lsm group.
The Stable shopping centre, built by Gorfin Construction and designed by MLH Architects took approximately 12 months to develop as the construction was hampered by record rainfall in Cape Town.
The fully let centre was opened officially on 29 May 2014 and enjoyed massive footfall over the opening weekend with a very festive atmosphere. The feedback received from Shoprite and the other tenants was extremely positive and exceeded expectations. The centre has been very busy in the first 2 weeks of trading and we expect this to increase over the coming months as the balance of the tenants open their stores.
